Declared language does not match the content on WordPress

What this is

The page says it is "?" but the text looks like "?". Screen readers will mispronounce the whole page.

Who it affects

  • Screen reader users

How to fix it

  1. Change the `lang` on `<html>` to the language the page is actually written in.
  2. If only some passages are in another language, mark those with their own `lang` attribute.

On WordPress

Settings → General → "Site Language" sets the `lang` attribute. Multilingual plugins (WPML, Polylang) set it per page.
